Historic Town

of Nafplio

Just 10 minutes away from Tolo is the first capital of independent Greece. A cosmopolitan city, Nafplio's old town is a magical place with its narrow streets and mixture of architectures. There are many things to see and well worth a visit during your stay in Tolo.

The buildings in the old town of Nafplio have been kept mostly traditional are are a grand variety reflecting the various occupations of the Venetians, Ottoman Empire and the Franks. Wandering around the narrow streets (sokakia in Greek) is a trip into the past.

It is possible to tke a boat ride to visit the Bourtzi castle and see Nafplio form the sea!

Visit the Archaeological museum and the Folklore museum along with the unique The Worry Bead museum and Ouzo museum. Visit the church of St. Spyridon and see the place where hthe famous Ioannis Kapodistrias was shot (complete with bullet hole). The harbour in Nafplion has a nice, wide promenade which is lined with cafeteries and restaurants, a fine place to stop for a break, an evening drink or dinner. Just outside Nafplion is the UNESCO protected site of Ancient Tiryns famous for its Cyclopean walls and catacombs.
